Skylight FAQs
Identify the failure before choosing the fix.
A leaking or uncomfortable skylight does not automatically require complete replacement. The correct solution depends on where the system is failing and the condition of the surrounding assembly.
Can a leaking skylight be repaired?
Often, yes—but the source must first be identified. Water may be entering through glazing seals, the frame, flashing, the curb, drainage conditions, adjacent roofing, or another transition.
When should a skylight be replaced?
Replacement may be appropriate when the glazing, frame, seals, connections, or supporting curb have deteriorated beyond a dependable repair, or when the existing system no longer meets the property's needs.
Can insulation reduce condensation and drafts?
Properly coordinated insulation can help address heat loss, cold perimeter surfaces, drafts, and some condensation conditions. The glazing, air sealing, and interior humidity must also be considered.
Do you install roof windows?
Yes. We work with fixed and operable roof-window applications where the roof configuration, opening, access, ventilation goals, and project requirements support that solution.
Do you work on residential and commercial properties?
Yes. NYC ALL GLASS works with homeowners, businesses, property managers, contractors, architects, and project teams throughout all five boroughs.
Do NYC skylight projects require permits?
Requirements vary by property and scope. Building owners and project teams should confirm applicable filing requirements with their registered design professional and the NYC Department of Buildings when necessary.
